Our Environmental Policy

ENVIRONMENTAL and RESPONSIBLE PURCHASING POLICY STATEMENT

This is the Environmental Policy Statement of UCM Timber Plc and its subsidiary and group companies, collectively “UCM Timber”.

UCM Timber sources timber and other forest products in most of the world’s forested regions. We recognise our environmental responsibilities in every country and region where we source or sell timber or other forest products, and are committed to responsible purchasing.

As a member of the Timber Trade Federation (TTF), UCM Timber is committed to the TTF’s Code of Conduct and Environmental Code of Practice, and is a signatory to the TTF's Responsible Purchasing Policy. All our employees receive documented training in our Environmental Policy and Procedures, and environmental matters are considered a priority by the UCM Timber Plc Board of Directors.

UCM Timber Plc is Chain of Custody certified, an independently audited process which allows us to maintain accurate chain of custody records for timber and timber products from forest areas certified under FSC, PEFC, SFI, CSA, MTTC, and other schemes.

In addition, we continually monitor our suppliers to ensure that environmental standards are met, and that NO products sourced by the group derive from any of the following:

•    Endangered species prohibited under Appendix 1 of the CITES legislation

•    Timber that had been illegally harvested

•    Areas where traditional or civil rights are violated

•    Timber from uncertified high conservation value or endangered forests

•    Timber from genetically modified trees

We communicate with our suppliers about environmental matters on a regular basis, keeping them informed about changes to legislation, and encouraging increasing commitment to environmentally sound practices and independent certification. In addition, we maintain an ongoing dialogue with our customers over their environmental needs and concerns.

UCM Timber is committed to continually improving its environmental policy and procedures, and works with all stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, employees, governments and non-governmental organisations, to achieve continuous improvement throughout our supply chain.
